3 Ways to Use Grassroots Marketing to Get More Clients

First of all, what IS grassroots marketing? Good question! It’s when you market to a small audience (like your local ideal clients) with a focused marketing campaign that really speaks to them. The goal is to get those people talking about you to other people. Why? Word of mouth is still the most effective way to promote your business!

So, how do you do this? Well, here are 3 ways to use grassroots marketing to get more clients:

1. Rethink Direct Mail

I hear you groaning out there! But let me tell you a secret: Direct mail is making a comeback because people actually like getting mail now. Don’t think cheesy postcards. The secret is to make it personal – address the mail specifically to the person you want as a client. Send them a gorgeous brochure of your work with a handwritten note. There’s much less competition in their mailbox, so your mail will stand out.

2. Cross Promote

There are a lot of businesses in your area that want to reach the same ideal client that you do. So what could you do together?! Maybe you could partner with a clothing boutique to showcase the newest color trends for fashion AND home. Or you could host an event with a local gallery to talk about how art inspires a room’s design. Use your imagination and look for that perfect partner! You probably already have one:)

3. Give Back

People like to know that companies have a heart, so think about what you can do to give back to your community. Why not get involved with charitable events that mesh well with your business. For example, participate in Habitat for Humanity, or a Symphony Showhouse, or a Home for the Holidays showcase. If there isn’t one you like, create one! Think out of the box!

Using these ideas to reach (and wow!) your ideal client will help get the word out about your business! Remember, you must be very specific in a grassroots marketing campaign, so be sure you know exactly who your ideal client is and where you can find them- BEFORE you start on any marketing program.
