There are weeks when I wish I could increase the hours in a day from 24 to 50! I’m sure you know exactly what I mean, right?!? And believe it or not, you CAN give yourself more time – by being more productive! Easier said than done? No, it’s actually easy! I have 3 things I do to increase my productivity, and I know they’ll work for you, too!

1. Stop the Bings, Dings, and Rings

This one may seem obvious – but I KNOW you aren’t doing it. When you really need to concentrate, you have to turn off notifications, your phone, your doorbell – everything! Studies show that if you look at an email while you’re working, it can take you 20 minutes to even get your brain back on track for the task you were doing. Put your phone down. Turn off your email alerts. Focus!

2. Take a Break

Does that sound counterintuitive to your productivity? It isn’t! Your brain works much faster when it’s well rested! Taking short breaks helps keep you sharp. You also want to include exercise in your day so your body will pump lots of oxygen to your brain! And regular vacations and getaways are a MUST when you own your own business. (I sure take that seriously! Ha!) If you’re burned out, you’re never going to be as effective and efficient in your work. So plan some quiet time to recharge your brain!

3. Forget Multitasking

A few years ago, all anyone could talk about is how you should be doing more than one thing at a time. (Yep. Right when I had 3 children! Thanks 🤪) Multitasking was supposed to save you time and help you get so much more done. But now researchers have shown that it’s all a myth – you can’t do anything well when you’re distracted. You need to keep your mind on one thing at a time to be as productive as possible!

To-do lists are also fabulous tools! I keep one long list with all of my projects and tasks, but I also have a shorter one that I use each day. I only put 2-3 tasks on that shorter list because that’s about all you can complete in one day with everything else that will come up! Download my FREE template for Prioritizing Your To Do List! It will keep you on task and super-productive!

Kathleen
