Okay, I’m not trying to start a panic or anything, but you only have 16 weeks until the end of the year! WHOA 😮. And as we enter the 4th quarter, it’s really time to look back at what you set for your 2019 goals. Because – believe it or not – it’s NOT too late to do the work to end the year on a high! Don’t believe me?! Check out these ideas:
Assess Current Financials
I know this isn’t your favorite thing to do – it isn’t really ANYONE’s favorite thing to do. But if you don’t know where you are, you don’t know where you need to go! Sit down right now with your bookkeeper and get a very clear picture on what you’ve made, what your expenses look like, and how your financial picture would look if you ended the year today. You might surprise yourself and actually be in pretty good shape. But if your review shows some work that needs to be done, then you can still set up a game plan to hit those goals! You have 4 months to do it, and a LOT can happen in 4 months. So, go for it!
Review Your Services
Now (really!), take some time to look at your services and any products you might sell. You want to figure out which ones are the most profitable for your business. For example, if you can crank out a Design in a Day at 4 hours for $2,000, you could add a few of those between now and year’s end to pump up the bottom line. Or if you have something that just isn’t selling, now is the time to discount it and get it out the door. Doing this type of review helps you get a clear picture of what to focus on, and what you can drop. Keep in mind that anything that you can do as a consultant is going to have a higher profit margin, so focus on THAT!
Hit That Marketing HARD
This is NOT the time to skip your marketing, I don’t care how busy you are. You want to market those services that are going to add a good chunk to your finances in the 4th quarter AND you want to hit 2020 with some clients in the pipeline. Remember to market the services that are most profitable to you, and always reach out to former clients. Those former clients who were happy with your work are your very best advocates! Don’t just email them – take them to lunch or give them a call! Oh, and start planning your holiday client gifts right now, too!
Break It Down
Make a list of your best action items to help you get to those goals by the end of the year. List the items to do now, those you want to finish by the end of September, and so on. Taking these actionable steps are going to make you feel good because you’re going to be able to check things off your list – there isn’t a better feeling than accomplishing something, right?! (I almost feel like dancing, now!)
Most importantly, DON’T PANIC. You can definitely still meet some of your 2019 goals, but if you don’t, just move those to 2020. Do your best to just end the year as strongly as you can – that’s the key!
