I don’t know about you, but there have been times when I’ve felt like I’m running in circles in my office (around the dogs, between the desks and sliding by the chairs!) It was like I was working as hard as I could, but nothing was getting done! So a few years ago I got sick of that craziness and decided to create systems to help me make the most out of the time I have in a day. I actually love working hard, but I wanted to have something to SHOW for my work! I wanted to move that darn needle! Here are 4 tips that help me manage my time and get things done:

1. Prioritize

My to-do list is about 40 pages long – how about yours?!? I’ve learned not to look at the whole thing at one time. It’s never-ending and keeps growing. It’s more important to prioritize what needs to be done TODAY or at least this week and put those at the top. You’ll never clear your list in one day, so be sure you know what the top 3 things are that need to be done each day. Imagine if you got just 3 things done in one day (x5 days/week x 50 weeks-remember vacation!) Yep. You would get a TON done✅

2. Create a Buffer

When you finish one thing, take a minute (or TWO!) to breathe and clear your mind before you start on the next thing. If you rush from one thing to another, you aren’t allowing your brain to catch up. That’s especially important if you’re switching between left-brain activities and right-brain tasks. Plus, it just helps you if you can breathe a bit before rushing off to the next thing! This is when I usually take my dogs for a walk. Yes. They come to work:)

3. Focus

Studies have proven without a doubt that you cannot multitask – no matter what you think. Keep your focus on the task you’re working on and don’t allow yourself to be distracted by your phone, the TV, people knocking on your door, or anything else! The more you focus, the faster you’ll be done with that task.

4. Say No

Saying no isn’t selfish, it’s SMART! You don’t have to take on every project, you don’t have to agree to every request! If you say no more often, you’re going to have more time. This has been one of the biggest things to change my life!
