5 Ways to Make More Money by Being More Organized

A recent study by Express Employment Professionals of over 18,000 business owners showed that having a disorganized company can cost six working hours per week. WOW! That's almost an entire day just wasted. Having systems, processes, organized files, and templates can make a big difference in how profitable your business is. Getting your business into a better workflow is going to make you more money. HOW? I'll give you 5 ways that will make you ready to do a spring cleaning on your company!

1. Save Time

Time is money, right?? In that study I described, losing six hours per week would be a BIG issue in most small businesses. When you have everything systemized and in its place, you and your employees and contractors spend less time looking for files and more time doing your actual jobs. You aren't creating new documents for the ones you use over and over. You aren't scrambling around looking for things or creating new lists. All of that wasted time is time that you COULD have spent marketing to new clients, or on any of the other 1000s of things you have to do as a business owner. And completing your projects on a faster timeline means that you can take on another project much sooner - and THAT is more money in your pocket!

2. Better Financial Management

With more efficient employees, you're definitely going to raise your ROI, which will mean more money and better cash flow. Having your employees (or YOU) spinning your wheels and recreating work that should have already been templated is NOT a great use of your payroll or your expenses. And remember that being organized ALSO means that your finances and your reports are all set up, too. Staying on top of your P&L, your cash flow, and your expenses will help you control your profits and make more money.

3. Better Customer Service

The #1 way that most interior designers (from the most well-known to the newbies) get new clients is through word-of-mouth. And that means your customer service needs to be ON POINT so those clients will tell everyone how fabulous you are! The best way to do that is to run a professional and efficient business, one that works smoothly and perfectly for your clients. The ONLY way you can do that is if you have great systems in place and you are hyper-organized. Trust me, your clients notice when the wheels are coming off, even if you try to hide it from them. The last thing you want is to look like you don't know what you're doing, or that you don't have everything under control. Happy clients definitely means more clients and more money in your future.

4. Less Stress

Can stress reduction really make you more money?? Um, YES!!!! The less you are freaking out about your business and running on that worry treadmill, the more energy and time you have to market your business, pitch fabulous ideas to new clients, and find partnerships that are a win-win for you both. None of us operate at our best when we are stressed out. And other people definitely pick up on our stress, which is never good for business.

5. More Creativity

What is the one thing you love most about your business? The actual DESIGN, right?? And the more creative and incredible your design work is, the more press you'll get and the more clients you'll attract. But when you're spinning your wheels with administrative busywork, it is impossible to carve out that important creative time. Systems and processes make everything run smoothly, which means you have more energy for creativity, and that means more money when you're an interior designer!
